Tree of 1000 souls

by Tatiana Perkins
(Everett, Washington)

Lonely road in montana

Lonely road in montana

On a lonely road in Montana, there is one tree.
It never grows. It never dies.

One couple was looking for firewood for the winter, and saw the one tree by the street. "Here, honey, this one works, it's gonna die anyway." said the man. The woman went to cut down the tree and her wrists got stopped right by the tree.

A ghostly figure appeared. "Nooo, this tree will not go doooown." the figure howled. "I uh, wasn't gonna cut this tree DOWN. Hah, uhmm." The woman was stammering. "This is the tree of a thousand souls, we've already died, we never grow. We have been forgotten, and nobody cares about us. Whoever tries to interfere, will be a part."

The figure held out a palm. Without thinking, the woman grabbed it. The ghost pulled her into the tree. "Uh, Miriam, where did you get yourself off to?" The man was looking all over the place. He expected her to have cut the tree down already, because it was nowhere in sight. "Just meet me at the house, then." The man drove away.

A year later, after knowing for sure his wife would not be coming back, he drove down that road, and saw the tree. He got out of his truck and walked over. A figure appeared. "Sweet deary, come with me." It was the wife. "Come with meee." She howled. "Miriam... what, happened?" The husband was close to the tree. The wife held out her palms. "Come?" Without thinking he stepped into the tree.

On a lonely road in Montana, there is one tree. It never dies. It never grows.
