The Fairy in my Backyard

by Ysabel Guazon
(Cebu , Philippines)

I was sitting on my bench with my dog, Juggy.I stared as the sun started to set. I sighed. "another day gone". I turned to juggy. he whined and placed his huge white head on my leg. i sighed again. then, i heard a tiny voice saying, "don't be so sad. i am here" i looked up. "who's there?"

then i heard a tiny laugh and suddenly i saw a fairy with transparent wings and a beautiful face. she wore a gown made of rose petals and an upturned bud as a skirt. " are - are - are you a - a fairy?" i stuttered. the fairy laughed and said "yes! i am a fairy.

i have been living in your backyard since i was born, and i like it here. i want to be your friend. lets play together everyday after you arrive from school" so, i made friends with a fairy. i asked her her name and she said her name was Gwyneth. so everyday, after school, i would play with Gwyneth.

one day, i arrived home and went to my backyard. "Gwyneth, come out!" i called. then, my mother came into the backyard and said to me " your fairy is gone. she flew away because she was frightened of Juggy." i was heartbroken. then, just as i broke down and cried, i woke up and realized it was all just a dream.

i went out to the backyard and soon realized that there was no fairy in my backyard and no Gwyneth, but even though that was all just a dream, i still remember that tiny laugh and that tiny voice, and i still remember the games that we played together, and every night, when i go to sleep, i always see her in my dreams and i know that she is with me wherever i go. and i know that whatever i do, she is always guiding me.
