Goodbye

"Wow. This place looks ancient." Jessica commented as we walked further into the huge, Victorian house. My heart pounded in my throat as I heard the old floorboards creak under my feet.

"Tell me about it." Bryan replied, shining his flashlight around the spiraling staircase. I shrieked and jumped to him, grabbing his arm, as the light ran over what looked like a woman, one hand on the railing, her eyes black as coal, staring down at me with pure hatred in her eyes. "Stella, calm down. No one is here."

"But I saw-" I started to complain.

He pressed his finger to my lips. "Shhh. We'll be fine."

I felt tears leak from my eyes and flow over his hand. I shook my head. He shushed me gently again, and put an arm around my shoulder. Jessica glanced at me worriedly, and we continued to walk. We made our way up the stairs, and I was shaking.

We'd come here just for the fun of it. Or at least, I thought it would be fun. But I was terrified of the house...I could feel something evil, something demonic lurking in the pitch dark shadows. Bryan seemed a little frightened, too, but my football player boyfriend didn't admit it. I kind of admired that about him.

We stopped at the top of the stairs. And that's when the lights went out. I screamed at the top of my lungs, but Bryan's hand flew to my mouth and I was cut off. Jessica gasped. My boyfriend was silent. But we didn't move on. Instead, we waited. Suddenly, an inhuman shriek came from a few feet away. I saw the woman from the stairs flying towards us, her mouth stretched into a deformed cry. I screamed again, and Jessica screamed with me. We ran down the hall, stumbling and tripping all the way.

Bryan and I stopped at the end of the hall. We noticed in horror that Jessica was not with us. I gulped and forced myself to turn and look back. The hall was pitch black, and I couldn't even see my own hand two inches from my face. That's when I felt heavy breathing flow over me, and the piercing shriek sounded right in front of my face. I screamed for the third time, and in a split second Bryan was gone from my side. The shrieking continued, and Bryan's screams mixed with it. I spun around.

The doorway at the end of the hall was open. Brian was on his stomach, his hands clamping around the sides of the doorway. Six white, disfigured arms gripped his body, pulling him back into the darkness. I cried out and fell to my knees, grabbing under Bryan's arms and pulling him towards me.

"GET OUT OF THE HOUSE!" He shouted at me. "SAVE YOURSELF!"

"NO!" I shouted back. "I'M NOT GOING WITH YOU!"

"Stella, please." He was sobbing. "I'll never forgive myself if you die thanks to me. Go."

"Never. I will NEVER say goodbye to you." The tears returned to my eyes.

"Please..."

"No."

And the six arms pulled us both into the shadows.
