A Cool Breeze

by Sarah

I was sitting alone in my backyard. It was dark and cloudy, but I had accidentally locked myself out of the house, and I now needed to wait for my mom to get home.

It was nearly 10:00pm and there was still no sign of mom. "She must be working overtime." I thought.

My eyelids became heavy. Then they just shut.
I was awoken by a scream. It was coming from my neighbors house. Being a boy, I thought it was my job to see what was the matter.

When I got to the doorstep, a felt a cool breeze rush past me. It sent chills down my spine. I opened the door and followed the screaming. In the room upstairs, I saw Mrs. Jenkins. She grabbed me and kept screaming, "It took my baby!! Greg, It took my baby!!!" She wouldn't let go, and she just kept screaming.

"Who took your baby?" I kept asking. But all she could do was scream and point to a door at the far end of the room.

I pried her hands off of me and walked to the door. I opened it. And do you know what I saw? I saw a shadow sitting in the corner. Do you know what that shadow was doing? It was eating her baby. I forever wish I hadn't opened that door.

The shadow's head jerked up. I slammed the door and ran to grab Mrs. Jenkins. "We need to get out of here!!" I screamed. But she wouldn't budge. I began to run when I heard the door burst open. Out came nothing but a cool breeze that wrapped around Mrs. Jenkins. She froze. The next thing I knew, I heard a SNAP! and her head fell to the ground. I didn't even watch her body fall over. I threw myself down the stairs. I needed to get out of there!

I had just reached the door. I was just about to be free. But a cool breeze wrapped around me.
